Some of these treatments are not expensive, while others are readily available in the market and very effective. Below are some effective ways to help you get rid of acne once and for all.

  1. Wash your face regularly using warm water and mild soap

One of the easiest things to do when dealing with signs of acne is to clean the face regularly using a mild soap and lukewarm water. This should be done in the morning and before going to bed. This will help eliminate any excess oil, dirt and make-up from the skin thus unclogging the pores. These elements are normally responsible for acne outbreak and by eliminating them, you will be getting rid of acne for good. Do not use hot water or over wash the skin as this will stripe it bare of natural oils leaving it dry and vulnerable.

  1. Watch your diet

Proper nutrition and diet plays a very important role in acne treatment. You should eat food that is well balanced and of importance, make sure there are lots of vitamins and minerals to help keep your skin glowing and smooth. You should eat lots of vegetables and fruits and avoid junk food especially processed and oily ones since they only trigger an escalation of acne problem. Zinc and Vitamin A, C, and E are also very essential especially for reducing inflammation.

  1. Keep yourself hydrated

You need to keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of fluids especially water. It is recommended that adults should drink approximately 6-8 glasses of water daily to help the body get rid of any toxins while at the same time keeping the skin healthy and moisturized. Whenever you feel thirsty, opt for a glass of water instead of processed juices or drinks that contain caffeine such as coffee and tea.

  1. Avoid stress

Some acne cases are as a result the body’s inability to fight infections. Stress is known to lower this ability therefore acting as a precursor of acne. To avoid this kind of a problem, try to relax and get quality sleep whenever possible. You should also do regular exercises since they help increase oxygen and blood circulation to the skin thus helping to combat acne effectively.

  1. Chemical peels

This treatment is suitable for moderate and mild acne. Chemical peels are generally good in that they help remove dead skin cells thus destroying bacteria, unclogging hair follicles and encouraging the production of collagen and cells. With different types of peels available, it is important to discuss with your dermatologist to find the right treatment for your skin.

  1. Microdermabrasion

This acne treatment method works by removing the top layer of dead cells that normally clog the pores. The procedure involves light abrading of the skin using fine crystals and this helps eliminate acne-causing bacteria while encouraging collagen production without causing harm to the skin.

There are also many advanced acne treatment methods and products which you can use for both severe and mild cases. These include LED light therapy and IPL acne treatment procedure. There also creams and other facial application products which should be used with care to avoid causing more damage to the skin.

10 Questions You Should ask Your Cosmetic Surgeon

$
0
0

Choosing to undergo cosmetic surgery can be a profoundly life changing experience. A good and reputable surgeon makes sure that it is a change for the better.

This is why it is very important to take the time to choose your surgeon carefully. Get to know your surgeon’s background and skills before you book your procedure.

There are some important questions to ask early on:

  1. Are you a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada?

Certification from here ensures a high degree of training and qualifications. Make sure that a surgeon who claims to be “board certified” backs up their claim with specifics.

  1. Where did you complete your plastic surgery residency training?

This is another important part of checking up on credentials. If you are uncertain, you can check with the institution where they trained.

  1. Do you have hospital admitting privileges? If so, which hospital?

It is a good idea to make sure that your surgeon has access to hospital facilities in case of any complications. This ensures that they can stay with you, instead of transferring you to a different doctor that does not know the details of your case. You can also check with the hospital to confirm their answer.

  1. Are there any risks or common complications associated with this surgery?

A good surgeon is an honest surgeon. They should be upfront with you about any potential risks. Be cautious of a surgeon who makes wild promises of no-risk surgery.

  1. Is this surgery right for me?

Your surgeon should not try to sell you on surgeries that you don’t need or won’t work for you. Talk to your surgeon to make sure that you are a good candidate for the procedure you are interested in.

  1. How many times have you performed this surgery, and what is your training for it?

Make sure that your surgeon is actually experienced with this cosmetic surgery procedure, and not trying to sell you services outside of their area of expertise.

  1. What are the anaesthesiologist’s certifications?

Just like your surgeon, your anaesthesiologist needs to be properly certified.

  1. What is the usual recovery time for this procedure?

These kinds of questions are important for two reasons. First of all, it is important for you to understand the details of your surgery and recovery to plan your calendar and adjust your life as necessary. Secondly, you can spot dishonest surgeons if they attempt to guarantee fantastically short recovery periods.

  1. May I read over the patient consent form ahead of time?

Know and understand the terms of your agreement before you sign.

  1. What are my options if there are complications or if I am not satisfied with the results?

Learn about the options ahead of time, so that there are no surprises later on. Be sure to take note of potential costs involved.

Injectables are becoming one the most important services for aesthetic practices. Their growing popularity, and superior results have introduced a wider market to aesthetic treatments.

For doctors and business owners, injectables are a valuable investment to the value you provide your clients. Understanding the role of injectables in your aesthetics practice ensures long-term patient satisfaction and success for your business.

The Popularity of Injectables

Injectables are a first choice for many who are looking to renew their appearance. It offers a minimally invasive way to achieve more volume in areas of the face, enhancing certain features.

Because of technological advancements, the results obtained from injectables have continued to improve, along with their safety. This has made injectables a first step in many people’s experience with aesthetic procedures.

More importantly, patients who undergo minimally invasive procedures such as injectables are more likely to have treatments in the future. In addition, they choose to stay with the same doctor.

And because of all these reasons, medical aestheics training has turned out to be a choice for many.

Building Relationships

Building long-term relationships with clients is a vital part of any business. Injectables have proven to be an effective way to broaden your client base, while providing a resource for future clients.

When patients decide to proceed with more invasive aesthetic procedures, they feel most comfortable returning to the practitioner they had for less invasive treatments. This underscores the trust that many clients ultimately invest in their doctors and aestheticians.

Providing injectables to clients is a great way to begin long-term relationships. As their needs change over time, they’ll return to you for the quality results they know you can provide them.

Botox and hyaluronic acid fillers are the most popular injectables used. Researchers have observed that, of those who begin with these procedures, there is an increased likelihood that they will move on to surgery over time.

Long-Term Success for Your Aesthetics Practice

Aestheticians have realized the value of providing injectables in their practices. Those patients become a source of long-term repeat visits and referrals. As these patients get results with injectables, and build trust in their doctors, they’re more likely to consider future treatments.

With significant average revenue from those patients, the lifetime value of a customer to your business increases, providing a strong foundation for the success of your practice.

As injectables continue to gain more popularity, doctors will continue to provide them to their clients. This is often the first step in their relationships with their clients and will lead to future treatments and services. Injectables play a large role in the success of your aesthetics practice.

Get a Facelift Without Surgery

Many people want a way to reduce signs of aging to improve their personal, relationship, and professional lives. It’s a growing industry, among both women and men. The only thing holding back face lift popularity is price. Like all surgical procedures, face lifts can be costly.

There’s some good news, though. Non-surgical facelifts are becoming increasingly affordable, effective, and popular. Although they are not the right choice for everyone, they are worth trying if you want to look younger and feel happier.

“Facelift in a Jar”

“Facelift in a Jar” products are not true facelifts. Instead, they are advanced cosmetics that can improve appearance for a short amount of time, usually less than a week. However, they are affordable and safe!

These products are typically creams including dimethylethanolamine, an alcohol that tightens skin, or a combination of amino acids, the basic building blocks of cells. Dimethylethanolamine tightens skin for a period of a few days and has a clinical effect improving mood. Amino acids are absorbed into skin, giving a temporary boost to skin volume and elasticity before being used up or dissipated elsewhere into the body. Other common ingredients are anti-oxidants that slow aging and reduce blemishes. Most topical facelift creams produce noticeable results for patients. Also, most can be applied at home.

Oxylift and Other Electrical Devices

Some devices use electrical current to generate ozone on the surface of the skin. These devices were originally patented to sanitize acne, blemishes, and burns with blasts of ozone. While certainly effective at that, the research is still inconclusive as to whether the devices actually tighten wrinkles in most patients. Still, the low-level current is safe for use and worth a try.

Radiofrequency/Laser Non-Surgical Facelifts

An experimental, but very promising, approach to nonsurgical facelifts is the selective heating of the underlying collagen structure of the skin. This can be achieved through either radiofrequency or low-intensity laser. The heat reforms the collagen bonds and increases elasticity. This treatment is completely painless and typically works after just one session.

Fillers

Fillers, like Sculptra, are injectables that restore lost collagen. They need to be injected over several sessions to build up collagen. They increase elasticity for about two years after the last session.

Botox

Of the methods on this list, Botox is the most heavily tested and provably effective treatment. Botox uses a dilute toxin to tighten muscles in the face. It works immediately and lasts for up to 6 months. It is safe, affordable, and reliable. If you have tried a few other methods and have not seen the results you want, Botox is a great solution.

Rhinoplasty in focus: Everything you should know before reshaping your nose

Reasons people decide to undergo a nose job (rhinoplasty) are many and they can be medical, cosmetic or both. People sometimes have trouble breathing due to septum deviation or an injury, or they simply want to change the way their nose looks. Regardless f the reasons behind the surgery, being well informed is the key to better understanding of one’s situation.

How the procedure looks

When you undergo rhinoplasty, your nose shape will be changed; meaning that it will be smaller, the tip will look different, you will not have bumps, etc. The surgeon will need to access the cartilage and the bones inside the nose, and they will make small incisions to do that. These incisions will not be visible after the surgery since they are made inside the nose. After the surgery, you will have to wear a splint which will support the new shape of your nose.

After the procedure

After approximately a week, your bandages and splint will be removed. Your face will be very sensitive, bruised and swollen for several days, but it will change as you heal. Cold compresses are really helpful with the swelling and the pain, and your doctor could also give you pain medicine. For about two weeks you will have to keep your head still, sleep on your back and use an additional pillow in order to keep your head elevated, but after that you will notice that swelling and bruising are almost completely gone. However, you should see with your doctor when it is going to be safe to start working our again.

What people usually want

Sometimes people want rhinoplasty because of medical reasons: they have difficulty breathing, they have had an injury or a birth defect, or they have some other complicated nasal problems. Often, these procedures are combined with cosmetic surgery, so while allowing their patients to breathe freely, surgeon can change the size and shape of the nose. People also often ask for the tip of the nose to be reshaped as well as the shape of the bridge. Patient’s nose can easily be made more symmetrical and an angle of the nose in relation to the upper lip can be changed too.

If you are thinking of rhinoplasty

If you want a nose job, you should first make an appointment. There are many rhinoplasty experts in Sydney such as dr Eddy Donawho can do the surgery and meet your requests. You have to keep in mind that doctors are not magicians, and that they have limitations too. However, with surgery your natural beauty can be emphasized. Before the surgery takes place, you should lose some of the bad habits; smoking is dangerous and you should not smoke at least two weeks before the surgery.

No matter if you are merely thinking about rhinoplasty or your have been planning it for a very long time, it is always useful to be well informed. Be open and honest with your doctor and follow their advice before and after surgery for the best results.

What Should I Prepare before a Sculptra?

Scupltra is a treatment also referred to as a liquid facelift, that many get to help them rid of the fine lines, wrinkles and sunken areas of the face that are often caused by aging.

Sculptra is an injection that helps to relax the collagen and cause stimulation to the cells so that the area where the injection was made becomes fuller. This procedure will provide the patient with a fuller, healthier looking face.

It is suggested that the procedure be done 3 to 4 times with 4 to 6 weeks in between each treatment. This will help to achieve optimal results. The series of treatments should last up to two years. This injection is used for three dimensional reshaping so that a person can appear younger.

Preparing for a Liquid Facelift

  • Maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet. Begin this as soon as you decide to go through with Sculptra treatments.
  • Keep your heart rate low before a treatment and avoid any extra exertion. Coming to the treatment relaxed is best.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol before the treatment to avoid the thinning of blood. Also avoid sugar and caffeine.
  • Wash your face thoroughly before a treatment. Do not use any facial cleansers, lotions or wear any makeup to the appointment.
  • Avoid the extra sunlight and wear SPF 30.

If pregnant or on medications of any kind, please remember to inform your surgeon. These types of occurrences could affect the Sculptra treatment, causing harmful after effects to the patient. Otherwise, by following the safety precautions and preparing for the liquid facelift, the treatments should go over smoothly.

What Can Sculptra Help With?

As stated above, Sculptra is used to create fullness under the skin. It can be used in extreme cases of facial depression to less extreme cases where a person simply wants to fill in wrinkles. Either way, there is a list of things that the liquid injection can help with.

  • Wrinkles
  • Fine Lines
  • Depressed Areas
  • Reshaping of the Face
  • Skin Folds
  • Scars
  • Aging

Most of the matters that can be resolved with Sculptra have to do with the facial region. It is a simple solution to smoothing and filling the areas of the face that cause you to look older.

Sculptra Aftercare

After a treatment, there are some aftercare measures that one can take to help prolong the effects of the treatments. It will also help to ease any discomfort that the treatments might have caused.

  • Have an icepack ready to help ease the swelling and bruising that might occur. It will also help with any possible pain or irritation that comes directly after these kind of beauty treatments and plastic surgery procedures.
  • Avoid excessive sun. Until the treatments are over or all swelling and bruising is gone, avoiding sunlight will help with a quick recovery.
  • Circular facial massages will help to distribute the facial filler evenly. By rubbing the face in circular motions for 5 minutes at a time, this will help guarantee a more even distribution of the liquid filler.

All You Need To Know About Wrinkles

The law of nature says that when you are young, you wish to be perceived as older, and when you get to be old, you again wish to be – young. Each stage of your life has its side-effects, but whether you are young or not so young, you surely notice wrinkles. To most people, wrinkles are just a sort of pest they deal with on a daily basis, and to other, more fortunate, wrinkles are just like any other normal thing in life, like grey hair, or a new bike. No matter the type of people you belong to, here are some things you should know about wrinkles.

Where

Wrinkles are defined as small lines or folds which appear on the surface of your skin as you grow older. Their development is the product of a natural process of ageing, and they usually appear on the parts of your body which are the most exposed to sunlight – for example, you face, neck, cleavage, the back of your hands, and the top of your forearms. Wrinkles generally fall into two categories: expressive/dynamic – which are caused by facial expressions (smiling, frowning, winking); and age-related/static – which are formed gradually, as you grow older and your organism stops producing natural substances which keep the skin elastic, smooth, plump and firm. Wrinkles are usually seen in the following areas of your face: forehead and frown lines, crow’s feet (at the outer corner of your eye), tear troughs, naso-labial folds and accordion lines, mouth lines and vertical lip lines.

Why

There is a number of factors which can cause wrinkles. One of the main culprits can be heredity – which means that if your family is prone to visible wrinkles, the odds are that you are going to have them as well. This is related to skin type as well, because light-coloured people will be susceptible to sun damage, which thus causes wrinkles. Other factors include constant and unprotected sun exposure during both summer and winter months. Harmful ultra-violet rays can penetrate all levels of skin, thus damaging even melanin production (which protects your skin from the sun and ageing). Another factor is your lifestyle – if you lead an unhealthy life, this will show in your skin, especially in your face. If you are a smoker, and exposed to stress on a daily basis, then you are more susceptible to wrinkling than anyone else.

How to Help

Once the wrinkles have appeared, your struggle may be in vain. This is why preventive measures, which will stop them from occurring fast, have to be taken as soon as possible. Battling wrinkles mainly starts when you create habits, such as daily skincare routines – which imply cleaning and nurturing your skin from early twenties. Staying out of the sun in the ‘danger hours’ – from 10 am and 4 pm – when UV rays are the strongest, will prevent premature ageing, and even serious skin  damaging. Wearing sunscreen should also become a part of your daily skincare routine, and you will have to find sunblock which is suitable to your skin type. As it was mentioned before, if you are leading an unhealthy lifestyle – stop right now, start eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, cut down alcohol and stop smoking. Other ways of battling wrinkles include wrinkle treatments which can minimise and even remove wrinkles. These include retinoid treatments, antioxidants (which are found in carrots, for example), dermabrasion and laser resurfacing (for this treatment you can ask in a Penrith skin clinic). The newest trend in fighting wrinkles are wrinkle fillers, which only specialised dermatologists can perform on your skin.

Everything You Need To Know About Otoplasty

$

0

Otoplasty, less commonly known as Pinnaplasty, is a corrective cosmetic surgery for ear reshaping. It is one of the less complex surgeries of its type and usually involves the resizing or reshaping of the ear. People usually undergo the surgical procedure if they are unhappy with the position of their ears and/or want to hold back protruding ears, or correct other abnormalities.

The construction of one’s ears contributes significantly to appearance, self-confidence and comfort. And even though the deformity may not emerge in the early years, it starts to surface as one grows. Prominent ears (also called flap-ears) can be discomforting for some people, and create social distress for others. Moreover, psychological anguish is commonly observed among patients with sticking-out ears, and otoplasty/pinnaplasty therefore proves effective in its purpose of reforming a key facial feature.

If you are considering an otoplasty, here is what to expect:

Background & Procedure:

The surgery is safe and simple. How? It is primarily incision-less and only reconstructs the ears without cutting into the skin. It seeks to fix the failure of cartilaginous folds (antihelix) forming within the ear. This is caused by an inherent defect of the auricle due to which the cartilage needs to be remodeled. It may also be that the edges of the ears are too small (in which case the remodeling becomes relatively difficult).

The surgery is generally an hour long carried out under general anesthesia (or local anesthesia– depending on patient needs/age and the surgeon’s general practice).

The elastic ear cartilage is divided as a hollow needle is inserted into the ear (the back of the auricle) and the cartilage is made more malleable by applying natural sutures. The ear is remolded by making stitches under the skin. The natural appearance is preserved as the elastic cartilage is merely repositioned to suit the face. Think of it as resetting the angle of the ear relative to the head. A bandage is applied to allow the cartilage to set in the new (corrected position). This normally takes between a week to ten days.

This plain sailing procedure prevents complications such as the formation of keloid scars and/or skin necrosis that can be caused by standard skin incisions. The post-surgery appearance is perfectly normal and with a little bit of post-surgical care, the scars can be healed completely.

However, post-surgery safety precautions are advised as the ‘corrections’ take their time to heal and settle in. In a sensitivity period of 1-2 weeks, a patient is generally required to be cautious, especially during the night. Special care must be taken to guard the ear from sudden impact or any other accidental damage.

Risks:

Although a simple procedure, otoplasty does pose minor risks such as bleeding and skin necrosis in case of complications during surgery. Internal bruising, also called haematoma, can occur beneath the skin but can easily be washed out by removing some of the stitches.

In rare cases minor infections can be expected (as with any other surgery) and can be easily mitigated with the use of antibiotics (usually lasting a week). The incision/scar at the back of the ear may cause superficial discomfort and may be reduced with the use of topical creams (as prescribed by surgeon).

In addition, recurrence of the abnormality is only observed in rare cases (up to 5%) and it is safe to perform the surgery a second time.

The success of any cosmetic surgery depends entirely on the specific needs of the patient and his/her satisfaction after the correction. A successful otoplasty, thus, is one that will ensure an appreciable difference to a deformed/prominent ear and provide satisfying results to a patient, without bearing worrisome complications.

Ditch the commercial skincare products for these natural DIY ones

There was a time when I would be easily impressed with those advertisements of skincare products that made their way between my favorite TV shows. The happy ladies in the ads using various kinds of face washes, scrubs, cleansers, moisturizers and what not; they made it look so enticing. Yet, did these products really work as they were shown to? Did they actually make your skin smooth, give you the glow you desire, rid you of wrinkles and prevent sagginess? Well, not always. While it would be harsh to judge all brands as being useless, because, to be very honest, some actually do live up to what they promise, there are plenty out there that just do not deliver what they advertise. Besides, how can anything artificial be good for you? The completely organic ones easily break the bank and thus are not an option for all of us, so let’s skip them.

I hate to break it to you but these skincare products have certain ingredients in them that you would not consider healthy for your skin. Yet, they are there and people continue using them, mainly due to lack of knowledge. That is not all. Certain products are even harmful for the environment. Imagine the earth having to pay for your indulgence. Scrubs, for instance, contain micro beads that when washed into oceans, pollute the water and harm the marine life.

It was after I researched about the adverse effects of such products that I started wondering whether there is an alternative to these and yes, I did find out and come up with recipes through which I could prepare my own products.

Face wash

I got the following recipe off DIY Natural.

  • ¼ cup liquid castile soap
  • ¼ cup organic chamomile tea
  • ¾ teaspoon grapeseed, sweet almond, hazelnut, avocado, or olive oil
  • 8 drops essential oils
  • several drops of Vitamin E oil – optional, but recommended

All you have to do is make tea, cool it down and mix the remaining ingredients together. Use it like a typical face wash. You could also just make do with organic liquid castile soap. The rest of the ingredients are recommended because they are good for your skin. Just make sure that you are not allergic to any of these. If you have any doubts, it is better to avoid that.

Face mask

There are a variety of recipes available for homemade, natural face mask and the one you choose depends on your skin type and what you are actually hoping to achieve after the ‘treatment’. One such is the Janice Cox’s Basic Oatmeal Mask for which you require ½ cup cooked oatmeal, one whole egg, and one tablespoon of almond oil. Mix everything and spread the mixture on your face and leave for 15 minutes. You could also add some fruit pulp, maybe berries or carrots.

If you are not up for preparing a facial mask mix, you could even just mash up any fruit and apply that to your face. Bananas do the botox work, apricots brighten your face, oranges prevent wrinkles, avocados have proven to have anti-aging properties; basically every fruit has its own benefits. Even plain yoghurt and honey work well.

Face toner

Vinegar has been doing the job of a toner since times immemorial. The fancy products that have taken over the market today are not any better, so why not prepare one yourself? All you would need is 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and 2 cups water. Rinse your face with this mixture after washing it. It helps with skin tightening.

Moisturizer

You can whip up a homemade moisturizer through a number of recipes. One such involves mixing half a cup of coconut oil, 1 teaspoon liquid vitamin E and 12 drops of lavender essential oil. Although this is great for your face, it can be practically used anywhere on the body considering that it is absolutely chemical free.

If you are looking for a simpler option, go for pure coconut oil that will moisturize your face like any other expensive lotion in the supermarket. Fully ripe avocados also contain moisturizing properties.

Exfoliator

Sugar is the perfect alternative to the scrubs available in the market that contain micro beads. Mix equal parts of sugar and an oil – such as coconut or olive – and use the resulting scrub for exfoliating purposes. If your skin is already too oily you might want to skip the extra oil and instead use baking soda to scrub. It also helps with blackheads.

Makeup remover

You probably know this but I am still going to say it since people tend not to always adhere to this. Never, and I repeat, never ever sleep with makeup on. Use a natural makeup remover to rid your face of those excess and unwanted chemicals. While makeup wipes may seem convenient, they contain chemicals that might irritate your face or eyes. Instead, use coconut or olive oil with a soft cloth. Milk also helps with the cleansing.

Sunscreen lotion

Commercial sunscreen products can easily contain carcinogenic substances, obviously not good for us. Make your own sunscreen lotion by mixing 2oz Shea butter and 2oz coconut oil. You would have to warm them. Then add 1oz zinc oxide and let the mixture cool before using. It is important to keep yourself safe from the sun considering the hazards it poses, and if you cannot avoid the sun, your only option is using a sunscreen.

There is nothing more important than taking care of yourself. Everyone wants to look and feel good so much so that we are even willing to shell out huge amounts for the purpose. What we do not realize is everything is available for us in nature. The above discussed natural items are what we need, not the branded, expensive, and fancily packed products we feel attracted to. Keeping it natural is the best way.

Wrinkles are an unavoidable side effect of aging, but you can take steps to lessen the appearance of your wrinkles. You have two options: spend a fortune on plastic surgery that might have negligible effects or try one of these home remedies based on ingredients, most of which you probably already have in your cupboards.

Don’t have a lot of wrinkles yet? Well that’s good news, because it’s far easier to take good care of your skin now and slow the development of wrinkles than it is to halt or reverse the process once you’re already wrinkly.

Ready to start fighting the aging process? Get started today with one of these home remedies:

  1. Oils

You might think of oil as being bad for your skin if you were prone to acne in your youth, but certain oils are actually excellent for your skin. Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer and contains emollient, a substance particularly good for fighting wrinkles that are already there. Olive oil is also a natural moisturizer and has been used as such since Egyptians first extracted it over 5, 000 years ago.

To take advantage of oil’s moisturizing and wrinkle-fighting effects, take some time to massage a small amount of oil into your skin before you sleep. You can do the olive oil treatment twice a day using a tablespoon and massaging it thoroughly into your skin.

  1. Banana Mask

These masks might look ridiculous but they are effective, and that’s what matters, right? Mash one banana up with a teaspoon of plain yogurt and a teaspoon of orange juice and spread the mixture evenly across your face. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes.

This turns out to be the ultimate vitamin mixture for revitalizing your face: vitamin A causes dark spots and blemishes to fade, vitamin B helps to delay aging and potassium moisturizes your skin cells. Finally, Vitamin E gives your skin an extra layer of protection against free radicals and UV rays.

  1. Topical Vitamin C

Vitamin C is crucial to your health in many different ways. It strengthens your immune system, prevents many different illnesses and helps protect your skin from sun damage. As you grow older your body retains less of this vitamin, meaning that your skin often doesn’t get enough of this crucial vitamin.

You can combat this vitamin C depletion by regularly taking oral vitamin C supplements or by using a face wash with vitamin C in it. Doing this every single day can help repair already existing sun damage.

  1. Egg White Mask

Another solution that looks funny but is definitely effective is the egg white mask. Mix one egg white with half a teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice together for the best effect.

Egg white masks are best for people with oily skin types as they contain a high level of lysozyme, which naturally attacks acne-causing bacteria.

  1. Silky Soft Sleep

A top-of-the-line pillow is definitely a worthwhile investment. You sleep for about a third of your lifetime and you also gain a lot of your wrinkles during this time. A soft pillow can save your face from the worst wrinkles.

The position you sleep in also matters. Sleep lines caused by folds in pillow cases or blankets can cause wrinkles and sleeping on your back is the best way to avoid this.

  1. Omega 3 Fats

Some types of fat are definitely bad for us but omega 3 fats are beneficial in a variety of ways. You can find omega 3 fats in any kind of oily fish like tuna or salmon as well as in many different kinds of seeds such as sunflower seeds and flax seeds. Try incorporating some of both into your diet—fish for dinner two or three times a week and a handful of flax seeds thrown onto every meal—for maximum effect.

While getting omega 3s directly from your diet is the best course of action, omega 3 supplements have also been proven to dramatically reduce signs of aging as well as increase energy levels.

  1. Green Tea

Drinking green tea on a daily basis has a huge number of benefits. It has high antioxidant properties, can increase your metabolism and help you lose weight, and can even help reduce wrinkles. All of these effects combine to make green tea perhaps the most widely enjoyed superfood.

Make sure you get only Camellia Sinensis tea or ‘true’ green tea, as many alternatives are made out of chamomile or mint and do not actually have the same medical benefits.

Mastectomy and its Different Types

With the increasing popularity and affordability of cosmetic and plastic surgical procedures, one important surgery that can also greatly benefit women is mastectomy. Women who have symptoms of developing breast cancer can highly benefit from the procedure. Others are confused whether or not mastectomy is also a surgical procedure done to improve the shape of the breast. To have clear knowledge about it, below is the definition and the different types of mastectomy.

What is mastectomy?

The term refers to the complete removal of the whole or most part of the breast. The nipple may or may not be removed depending on the type. The doctor removes the lymph nodes but the small glands are not because these are part of the immune system. There are five different types. These are simple or total mastectomy, partial mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy, radical mastectomy, and subcutaneous mastectomy. The type that will be performed will depend on the condition of the breast. For example, a different procedure will be performed to breasts with symptoms of cancer compared to those that are already developing cancer.

Simple Mastectomy

Also called total mastectomy, this type involves the removal of the entire breast. However, the muscles beneath or under the breast are not removed. In most cases, lymph nodes in the underarm area are not removed. But there are conditions that the removal is required because the lymph nodes are located within the tissue of the breast.

Partial Mastectomy

This type involves the removal of the cancerous part only of the breast. The affecte4d tissue and the other normal tissues that surround it may also be removed. This can be compared to lumpectomy. The difference, however, is that less tissue is removed in lumpectomy.

Modified Radical Mastectomy

This type involves the removal of both the lymph nodes and entire breast tissue. The first step is to remove the entire breast. Then, it is followed with the dissection of the axillary lymph node to remove the first and second levels of the nodes in the underarm. The muscles located beneath the breast are not removed.

Radical Mastectomy

Of all the types, this one is the most extensive. The first step is the removal of the entire breast. Then, the first, second and third level of lymph nodes in the underarm are removed. Lastly, the chest wall muscles that are located under the breast are also removed.

Subcutaneous Mastectomy

This type is also called nipple-sparing. Like the other types, the entire breast except the nipple is removed. This means that all of the tissues of the breast are removed while ensuring that the nipples remain. This is the less often performed type especially if compared to total or simple mastectomy. Until today, this type is a controversial procedure because performing it may result to the numbness and distortion of the nipple. With this, most physicians recommend the simple type instead of subcutaneous.

With this knowledge, women should be now conscious about their breast. They should think thoroughly before availing any cosmetic surgery and research if the procedure may contribute to the development of cancer.

Common Questions about the Facelift

Did you know that procedures such as dermal fillers and Botox are still the most requested cosmetic surgery in Ottawa procedures today? However, another procedure that is closely tailing these is the facelift. There is a good reason that facelifts are still so popular. The results that can be achieved with this process are powerful and can last much longer than the other procedures already mentioned. If you are thinking about having a facelift here you will find some answers to some of the most common questions asked about the surgery.

Who makes a good facelift candidate?

There is not any age or profile for a person to consider a facelift. This procedure is one that should be individualized to your situation, making sure that you take into account certain factors such as body type, age and a person’s size.

What is the best type of facelift?

There are a number of different techniques for you to choose from, including high SMAS, deep plane, MACS lift, skin only and many more. However, you need to talk with your doctor to determine which procedure is best for your specific needs.

How long is the surgery going to take and what is the expected recovery time?

The amount of time that the procedure will actually take will be dependent on the extent of the procedure you are having done. For some people, a mini-facelift can be completed in less than two hours. The standard doctor will take between three and four hours, and up to six if combined with brow or eyelid surgery. Since the facelift is a superficial operation, which is one where no bones are going to be broken, a surgery that last longer will not have much detriment to the patient.

The recovery time for patients will differ; however, generally speaking the swelling will begin to go down within 10 and 14 days. There are a number of patients that will return to work within 14 days.

What will the results of the procedure be?

A number of patients will report looking refreshed and younger, rather than operated on or different. The very best facelifts will appear natural, as if there has not been anything done beyond plenty of relaxation and rest. The very best way that you can ensure that you will still look like you is to carefully select the surgeon you use for the procedure.

By taking the time to get all of the information possible about a facelift you will be able to decide whether or not it will be a good fit for you.

The Best Ways to Care for the Skin on Your Face

Is that a wrinkle? Why do our faces break out right before an important meeting or event? Is smooth, flawless skin too much to ask for?

Your face is your window to the world, and it often takes the brunt of environmental factors due to sun, heat, cold, or dry climates. The skin on your face is different than the skin on the rest of your body.It needs its own routine to keep it clean, clear, and on the road to flawless.

Great skin isn’t an overnight miracle. Consistency is key. Learn more about the best practices to care for the skin on your face so you can avoid blemishes and early signs of aging.

Why Is Skincare So Important?

Taking care of your skin now is essential for graceful aging. As babies, we have smooth, wrinkle-free skin full of moisture and elasticity. As we age, harsh environmental factors wear down our skin causing it to be dryer and tougher. This leads to wrinkles and eventually sagging skin.

What can we do to combat the natural effects of aging? Great skincare! But first, let’s dive deeper and understand how our skin operates.

Our skin has three layers:

  1. Subcutaneous Tissue – the innermost layer with tissue containing fat cells that insulate the body.
  2. Dermis – the middle layer containing connective tissue.
  3. Epidermis – the outer layer designed to protect the inner skin from environmental damage.

Cells in the epidermis travel to the top and flake off. The epidermis becomes thinner over time and the skin loses elasticity as less collagen is produced. This eventually causes wrinkles and sagging skin.

Exposure to UV rays from the sun causes the epidermis to thin out and break down collagen even faster. In addition, your sweat glands decrease over time causing the skin to become dryer.

With all these factors working against us, you can see why great skin care is so important!

Daily Maintenance: Morning Skincare

Each morning, take these steps to care for your skin.

Step 1: Cleanse your face

Wash your face with lukewarm water and a purifying gel wash or creamy cleanser. Use gentle circular motions and smooth the cleanser upward from your neck. Avoid rubbing, pulling, or applying pressure. This can damage your skin and cause it to stretch out.

Step 2: Apply toner

Toner helps remove leftover makeup and restore the natural pH level of your skin. It leaves your skin clean, clear, and ready to be hydrated.

Step 3: Apply a moisturizer, sunscreen, and anti-aging treatments

Why so many? Because some of these treatments may come in one product or two. Many moisturizers contain SPF sunscreen protection which is one of the most important ways to protect your skin from UV ray damage.

Give your skin the hydration it craves by applying rich moisturizers year round. Apply all over your face and neck to hydrate your skin and protect it from environmental damage.

Step 4: Apply makeup (if you choose)

Now that you’ve cleansed and protected your skin, apply your makeup.Avoidthick or oily foundations whichcan clog your pores. Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone so it looks natural.

Daily Maintenance: Nighttime Skincare

Your evening skincare routine starts similarly to your morning routine.

Step 1: Cleanse your skin (remove makeup)

Wash your face each night before you go to bed to remove all makeup. Use a natural makeup remover to remove leftover eye makeup.

Step 2: Exfoliate or apply a soothing face mask

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells which can cause the face to appear dull. The build-up of dead skin cells can block the pores and lead to acne. Exfoliating at night helps brighten the skin and give it a healthy glow.

Don’t forget, be gentle. Exfoliation can be done 2-3 times a week depending on the exfoliant. Alternate with a gentle face mask for soothing relief.

Step 3: Apply a thick moisturizer (or night cream) on the face and neck

Night creams are thick products rich in moisture. Apply a night cream to your face and neck to allow your skin to replenish itself while you sleep.

Step 4: Gently tap on eye cream

Eye creams hydrate the delicate skin of the eyes and ward off wrinkles. Apply by tapping gently around your eyes after moisturizing your face.

Step 5: Get lots of sleep!

Rest for your body helps skincare products do their work. Keep your skin healthy and glowing by getting adequate sleep each night.

How to Keep Your Skin Young and Healthy EveryDay

Are there other ways to protect your skin? Yes. Keep these tips in mind.

  • Don’t Smoke – Smoking dries out your skin and leads to premature aging.
  • Wear Sunscreen – We can’t stress this enough. Protect your skin from sun damageyear round! Use at least 15 SPF to guard against UVA and UVB rays.
  • Eat Healthy – Enjoy lots of fresh greens, fruit, protein, and vitamin-rich foods. Vitamin C and a diet low in unhealthy fats and sugar promote radiant skin.
  • Be Gentle– Treat your skin with care and avoid rubbing it dry. Instead, blot your facial skin like it’s a fine piece of silk.
  • Stay Hydrated – Part of moisturizing is staying hydrated yourself. Drink lots of water (8 glasses or more) and eat lots of fruits and veggies with high water content such as cucumber, watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, orange, and grapefruit.
  • Get Your Beauty Sleep – Aim for 8 hours of sleep per night to rest your body and your skin. When you’re tired, your skin shows it with sags and bags. Get your beauty sleep for your overall health.
  • Manage Stress – Does your face break out when you’re stressed? Take time for yourself when you feel stressed and practice yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation.

6 Facial Care Tips That Every Girl Should Know

$

It’s no secret that taking care of your face entails a lot of time and effort. But with so many products and treatments out there, it’s hard to figure out what exactly you should do to attain perfect, flawless skin. In this article, we’ll give you 10 great tips so that you can keep your face looking young and smooth, no matter what the season.

  1. Figure Out Your Skin Type
If you don’t know your skin type, you may end up using the wrong products for your needs, causing more breakouts instead of fixing them. To figure out what your skin type is, wash your face with whatever cleanser you have on hand. Wait for about an hour for your face to go back to its natural state. Then, dab some tissue on your face, particularly on the T-zone, to test whether you have dry, oily, normal, or combination skin. Once you’ve figured it out, buy the right cosmetics for your skin type from a reputable store like YesStyle.
  2. Don’t Forget the Sunscreen
Though you can get your daily dose of Vitamin D with a little sun exposure, there’s a catch. Studies have shown that the ultraviolet rays of the sun could cause wrinkles and age spots on your skin. Even worse, being exposed too long to the sun could potentially cause certain types of skin cancer. Make sure to get a sunscreen that has an SPF of 15 at the very least. If you can, try looking for daily moisturizers that already have high SPFso you won’t have to layer anything on.
  3. Always Remove Makeup Before Bed
While makeup can really perk up your appearance, it can also clog up your pores. If you don’t give your skin some room to breathe overnight, you’re going to wake up to a face full of blackheads and blemishes. Yikes! If you just find it too much of a hassle to wash your face, then invest in some potent make-up remover wipes. With a few swipes, your face will be free of make-up, and you’ll be free to get your beauty sleep.
  4. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate
When you use gentle scrubs on your skin, you rub away all of the dead skin cells on the surface. By getting rid of all the dead skin, you help reveal the smooth, supple new skin underneath.Exfoliating also helps you keep wrinkles and fine lines at bay. At the same time, it keeps your pores unclogged, preventing breakouts from occurring.Try to exfoliate your face at least once every two weeks.
  5. Switch to a Healthy Diet
Yes, food has everything to do with how healthy your skin is. If you have a sweet tooth, it may be time to say goodbye to your favorite candy bars. The refined sugar that can be found in many sweet delicacies can make your insulin levels spike, which can cause inflammation to occur. Inflammation breaks down collagen and elastin, making your skin less strong and elastic, resulting in those pesky fine lines. Make sure to stock up your fridge with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as lean proteins like fish or chicken.
  6. Get Some Exercise In
Hate getting sweaty? You might want to change your mind, as exercise can help your skin glow. Exercise helps your pores dilate, andsweat pushes out any dirt or oil trapped within those pores. Plus, regular physical activity also reduces bodywide inflammation and improves blood circulation. This is because exercise helps open up your skin’s tiny arteries, which allows more blood to reach the surface of your skin. By doing so, your skin is able to get more of the nutrients that it needs to repair any damage caused by the sun and other environmental factors. At the same time, these nutrients also improve your skin’s production of collagen, which can help prevent wrinkles.

Keep these tips in mind so that you can make your skin the healthiest it can be. In a nutshell: always keep your face clean, eat the right kind of food, and don’t forget to keep yourself moving each day. You’ll definitely see the results of your hard work, results that will last several years from now.

What nobody tells you about your anti-aging face cream

Anti- aging face cream has become a big business. You can’t switch on the television, or surf the net, or flip the pages of a magazine without encountering an advertisement for a face cream that promises to wipe your wrinkled aging skin off. The truth is that most of us just slap face cream on our face without too much thought, after all, face cream is face cream, right? You are wrong. There is more than what shared in most of our conversations. Below are relevant facts about anti-aging face creams that are left out in most conversations.

Anti-aging face creams are beneficial at the early stages.

Aging does not start at our 40s. Aging may start as early at 18 when we start spending most of our times outdoor doing activities such as gardening, or basking in the sun. The UV rays of the sun are the primary causative of aging. The face is the part of the body that is so much exposed. Thus we should apply face cream when having outdoor activities. Facial care is always important, no matter the age.

Not all anti-aging creams are suitable for your face.

We all have different type of skins. Thus there are various anti-aging face creams suitable for everyone. If you have sensitive skin, then avoid face creams with fragrance. Also for oily skin women, make sure that the anti-aging creams you are going to use have no added oil or ingredients that may clog your skin pores.

Wear Face creams throughout the year

Once we get the expected results with our anti-aging face creams, we think about ditching the rest of the products. The truth is that we need to continue using the face cream products so that we can maintain the glowing skin.

You should apply anti-aging face cream all over

Face cream contains anti-aging ingredients. A rich effective anti-aging will efficiently work on your skin making it glow all over. However, the problem is that they aren’t cost effective since they are more expensive than body creams, you may end up getting broke.

The formulation of the cream is what matter

When suggesting to our friends about anti-aging face creams, we recommend the expensive face creams and brands. An important fact is that even the drug store drugs will do the trick for you, just choose the cream with the right formulation.

Pay attention when picking a face cream

Always read the label, not the brand. Know the ingredients that are best fit for your skin type as we all have different skins. I would recommend you to pick the anti-aging face cream with the small molecules as they work faster on your skin.

The face creams do not penetrate the skin

It’s true that no cosmetic penetrate the skin. The skin has a protective barrier that prevents certain substances from penetrating through the pores. Wondering how they help? Well, the anti-aging face creams keep your skin hydrated, prevent rays that enhance aging, and they prevent infections.

Be sure with what you apply as anti-aging face creams

One should be sure on what you use on your face. If you decide to go for natural anti-aging creams, then you should opt for those with active components such as Aloe Vera, Collagen or wheat germ. These components will be beneficial to your skin.

When you should switch up

Although the face creams are worn throughout the year, you should know when to change them up. In the warmer season go for, the lighter creams that won’t clog your pores. In the winter, switch to face cream with heavier formula.

You don’t need neck cream

You don’t need neck cream. The face cream you use is enriched enough with ingredients to soften and smoothen the neck region. There is no reason to invest on more separates products.

Facial Care: Taking Care Of Your Eyelids

For most people, eyes are the most attractive part of anybody’s face. When you meet somebody for the first time, their eyes are the first thing you will look at. Eyes tell something about people’s characteristics, they can look cheerful, warm or sad. And they can make us look younger or older.

It’s not just about the eyes precisely. Eyelids and eyelashes frame our eyes. That’s why it’s important to take proper care of them. They are a very sensitive part of our face, so you should know exactly how to do that. Eyelids, being a tiny part of our face, often stay unattended and neglected. You should change this as of today, as soon as you read just how exactly to take care of your eyelids.

Why is moisturizing so important

Our eyelids are always exposed to sun and dust. They are constantly protecting our eye from the outside influence and they are also exposed to all of it. What’s more, the skin on eyelids is extremely thin. Still, this feature makes eyelids capable of absorbing the moisturizer much more quickly and effectively than any other part of our skin. Not putting the moisturizer onto your eyelids will lead to their dehydration. And dehydration consequently leads to what most of us dread – the occurrence of wrinkles, which are even more visible and present on the lower eyelids. People usually ignore this part around the eye, so make sure you don’t make that mistake, too.

What you should also bear in mind is that not any moisturizing cream is the same. You should choose the moisturizing creams with peptides because they are the best at activating the cells in your skin. When the cells are activated, they start producing collagen, which, as we all know, reduces in production as we get older. Of course, there is a solution for that, but before we find a proper eyelid surgery, we should also try to help our skin in a natural way.

The best time to put a moisturizer on your skin is just after having a shower or washing your face. That’s when your skin is still wet, so there is no better moment to help it keep its moisture by putting a carefully chosen product.

Hydrate your body

Putting a good moisturizer on your face won’t be enough. You need to hydrate your organism from the inside. It’s no secret that our body is mostly made from water, and its level varies throughout our lives, depending on our age, gender, weight, etc. Our bodies are losing water throughout the day, so it’s important to keep it hydrated. At least 2 liters of water a day should be drunk, no matter if it’s summer or winter, in order to help your organism clean itself and your skin to stay elastic. The more elastic your skin is, the less trouble with saggy eyelids you’ll have. So keep that bottle of water close to you!

Keeping your eyelids clean and healthy

The fact that the skin on our eyelids is very thin is why the eyelids are very prone to contact dermatitis, whether it is allergic or irritant. We tend to rub and touch our eyelids with our dirty hands, which helps to develop this disease a lot. Itchy and burning eyelids are an unpleasant consequence of contact dermatitis. Cosmetics and hair products we use can also be a source of dermatitis, as well as glues used in artificial nails. There are creams and home remedies for contact dermatitis that can help, but the most important thing is to refrain ourselves from touching our eyelids more than needed, and also pay attention to what products we use on the rest of our body. Only healthy skin on our eyelids can guarantee a fresh and young look.

Overall, taking care of our eyelids is an everyday thing. What’s important is to be consistent with the treatments and care. Otherwise, the result won’t be as satisfying as you have expected.
